Disney+ gets streaming rights

Buoyed by this success, a bidding war for streaming rights erupted and Disney+ won it. It reportedly paid $75 million for the concert movie’s streaming rights. The concert film was released on Disney+ on March 14, 2024. One of the reasons for it becoming an instant hit was that the new version featured all the songs missing from the theatrical release of ‘Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour’.

Earlier concert films on Disney+

Earlier Disney+ streamed concert films and events like ‘Elton John: Farewell’ from Dodger Stadium, ‘Black Is King: A Film’ by Beyonce, and ‘The Beatles: Get Back’. ‘The Little Mermaid’, which also had a theatrical run, got 16 million views on its debut on Disney+.
